Mail Inspector

With the release of the Spam act on 10 April 2004, all sorts of potential litigation claims have arisen, even for legitimate companies simply trying to communicate with their clients. With this in mind, we saw the need for an easy to install package that would prevent emails being sent to people who had previously requested not to receive mail.

In addition to this we also saw the advantage for the system to automatically add a disclaimer to all outgoing emails, to further comply with the new act. The result of these needs was our Mail Inspector.

Mail Inspector is a simple SMTP server configured to relay all internal mail and inspect it before it is sent. Working in such a way makes Mail Inspector universal compatible with almost all internal or external SMTP based mail servers.

When a user sends an email, Mail Inspector checks all intended recipients against a “do not send” list and removes any recipients it finds a match for, it then sends an email to the sender, notifying them of the failed addresses. Mail Inspector also adds the predefined disclaimer to both HTML and Plain text emails in the appropriate position.

Mail Inspector also incorporates an automated “Unsubscribe System” that monitors an email account for unsubscribe emails and automatically adds clients who don’t wish to receive mail to the “do not send” list.

With the new Spam Act in place and litigation claims these days, can you afford not to use it?
